We added links on each page of our site (over there to the left) so that you can "become a fan" of Moon Jaw on Facebook, "friend" us on MySpace, and "follow" us on Twitter. Wow, we sure hope they don't come up with anymore social networking sites. Keeping up with the times is so exhausting...

Moon Jaw is giddier than a child cowboy in a Lone Ranger Museum to announce an
upcoming collaboration with our lunar kin, MV & EE. The duo of Matt "MV" Valentine and Erika "EE" Elder typically channel their psychedelic-folk, "lunar-raga" sound through Ecstatic Peace!, a label run by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, but will be releasing a limited-run 7" record via Moon Jaw in the coming months. A rotating cast of characters is often seen touring the planet(s) with MV & EE, going by names such as The Bummer Road, The Golden Road, and The MV & EE Medicine Show. If you get a chance to see them live you should definitely seize it. Their live performances are equally as celestial as their recordings. Alright Jawbones, stay tuned for updates on the 7" and more exciting Moon Jaw news!

I am happier than a frigid llama in a hoof warmer store to welcome Frontier Folk Nebraska and Dust From 1000 Years to the Moon Jaw family! The two have very different approaches to art, but both encapsulate that unbridled, beautiful, and true sound that keeps the fire burning here at Camp Moon Jaw. Please visit myspace.com/moonjawrecords to catch a glimpse of both bands. Here is a little on each:
Frontier Folk Nebraska:
Frontier Folk Nebraska is a no frills indie-folk-rock band from the Kentucky border with a timeless, haunting sound that leaves their listeners pleasantly unsettled. Wherein many metropolitan hipsters are found forcing a "country" sound in the midst of skyscrapers and city smog, these Kentuckians look to a different setting for genuine inspiration. FFN is honing an unjaded spirit that makes the hair on your neck stand straight on end. This is raw, desperate, authentic folk-rock at its very best.
Dust From 1000 Years:
The music of Dust From 1000 Years is analogous to a wandering mystic giving you the middle finger. This hardworking, Bloomington, IN band has been making beautifully dirty, honest, ethereal, hook-laden, lo-fi recordings for a good 5 years now. They've toured the countryside quite a few times, playing intimate, listener-friendly venues, and staunchly avoiding atmospheres (i.e. - many bars) where attendees are more concerned with looking cool and getting drunk than with actually listening to the music. It's a telling sign of their commitment to their craft, a commitment that has yielded some truly gorgeous songs.
Jeffrey Bowers to Help Run Moon Jaw:
I am equally as excited to announce that my dear friend Jeffrey Bowers will be helping me run and operate Moon Jaw Records. He is my brother in arms. The two of us have a very similar taste in music and an undying passion for helping to bring art to the masses (this shit needs to be heard!)
Jeffrey is also hard at work putting together a mixed media magazine compilation called Some-things. I mentioned all this in the previous post, but why not bring it on home again? The mag is going to include unreleased recordings by Castanets, Michael Hurley, Arrington De Dionyso + many others, movies, drawings, and literature. I am personally pissing my pants in anticipation of its release and we are already talking shop on Some-things #2 (which will most certainly be affiliated with Moon Jaw in some fashion). Your resource for all things Some-things is currently right here.
Oh, and there is some outrageous news on the horizon. Stay tuned for more exciting Moon Jaw updates...
Sincerely,
Leo DeLuca

Hey gang, check us out on Twitter! If you follow us, you never know what may happen. Most likely you'll get little quips about the banal nature of everyday business stuff, but there's a chance we'll think of other subjects to tweet about. Also, scoop the new flash players in the media section. Finally, catch Southeast Engine on tour if you live in either Carolina, Georgia, or West Virginia. The boys will be back in Athens in about a week, and apparently will have plenty of stories to tell.
Take care!

Moon Jaw Records is an Ohio-based imprint of the widely esteemed Misra/Absolutely Kosher Records. The label will be run by former Misra/Kosher intern, Vaughn Stewart, and Misra recording artist, Leo DeLuca, of the band Southeast Engine. Cory Brown, owner of Absolutely Kosher and manager of Misra, has provided the partners with a distribution deal via the Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA). All other areas of operation will be handled by Moon Jaw.
Since its founding in 1999, Misra Records has compiled an impressive catalog of releases including eye-opening projects from Centro-matic, The Mendoza Line, Shearwater, Evangelicals, Great Lake Swimmers, and Phosphorescent. The label's extensive back catalog includes many significant albums including Destroyer's masterpiece Streethawk: A Seduction, Jenny Toomey's Antidote and releases from Bablicon, Chris Lee and others.
Absolutely Kosher Records has steadily grown over the years, releasing music from a diverse roster now including artists such as The Wrens, Frog Eyes, +/- {Plus/Minus}, and The Dead Science. The label's back catalog includes key releases by The Mountain Goats, Pinback, Sunset Rubdown, The Court & Spark, and Xiu Xiu.
Moon Jaw Records is fortunate to be associated with such pivotal indie labels and will be working hard to discover, release, and promote music of the same caliber. Though the label is distributed by Misra/Absolutely Kosher, it will be its own separate entity with its own roster run by its own staff.
Moon Jaw's first release will be a 180 gram vinyl pressing of Southeast Engine's "From the Forest to the Sea", due out February 17, 2009. CD, digital distribution, and all other areas of operation will be handled by Misra Records. Filling out the initial Moon Jaw roster will be Cleveland/Chicago-based indie pop band, Bears. The label is also currently in correspondence with a number of bands and will have other releases out in 2009.
