Theodore will be in the Daytrotter Studio on Saturday, February 20. I'm not being lavish when I say they are one of the best independent live bands I've ever seen in my life (along with Brainiac and The Wrens). That being so, I'm sure their DT Session will be absolutely phenomenal.
A live video for "Half Pint" was also featured on the KEXP Blog today and St. Louis' Riverfront Times recently did an amazing write-up on the band. Thanks to Daytrotter, KEXP, and RFT. Grandma Moon Jaw really appreciates your love and support.

St. Louis" Theodore have made an absolutely phenomenal record called Hold You Like a Lover. It is the first release on Moon Jaw Records. Grandma Moon Jaw could not be happier. Stay tuned for accolades on this amazing piece of music.

Grandma Moon Jaw has a nice treat in store for you. The inimitable Phosphorescent will be doing a split 7" with the phenomenal Virgin Forest sometime in early to mid 2010. Phos just got back from backing up Willie Nelson at Farm Aid. Virgin Forest is the project of Phos keyboardist Scott Stapleton and contains the whole band sans frontman Matthew Houck. I really love these guys. This will be an early installment in the Moon Jaw 7" Series. Now go eat your oats and stop worrying!

Happy Holidays! Anyway, there's been so much happening here at Camp Moon Jaw... so much that I've been unable to update this here site in awhile. Well, I've decided to turn over a new leaf and update our little corner of the world regardless of the incredibly full plate. Both Theodore (JAW 001) and Dust From 1000 Years (JAW 002) are coming out in February of 2010. Both are phenomenal records and I will reveal the exact release dates right soon. Some big names in the independent music world will also be making out with Moon Jaw in early 2010. Stay tuned. Also, Grandma Moon Jaw now has a blog which will be revealed right soon as well. Remember to floss. More soon. xoox.

On the bill will be Moon Jaw's own Dust From 1000 Years + The Black Swans + the legendary Chris Biester. This is going to be an otherworldly evening of music. Not to be missed.

It's officially official, Dust From 1000 Years will be releasing their fifth full-length album - Marble Memo - on Moon Jaw Records. The trio of Bone Rector, Jimmy Brown, and Matt Wissig are making some of the most wildly unique music around these days. Hands down. Imagine a lo-fi Flaming Lips started reading Bukowski and you only start to scratch the surface of their singular sound.
Coke Machine Glow stumbled upon their self-titled record via a tip from Emperor X and had this to say about it: "Don't worry about Dust From 1000 Years making your stereo system sadly irrelevant; you have your Radiohead albums. Don't worry if the first time through it doesn't much jump out at you; this album is a strong grower. Don't worry that you've never heard of this band before... You never know where the next Pavement or Elliott Smith might be hiding out."
This is the type of idiosyncratic band that has real potential to build a substantial underground cult following akin to Guided By Voices or Silver Jews. I'm not being extravagant when I say this. Their albums slowly seep into your subconscious, becoming more and more infectious with every listen. It's an essential component for sustainability and Dust possesses it like no other.
...But as the great Levar Burton says, "you don't have to take my word for it." Dig this:

The music of Bears sounds as good acoustic as it does with a full-band. It's a true testament to the quality of their art. Bears' Brainfathers Charlie McArthur and Craig Ramsey recently got together in Chicago to record a series of acoustic videos. They recorded a video in the various rooms of Charlie and Kate's apartment. Visit Bears' Blog to view them all Enjoy!

I am happier than an emery board salesman in a sandstorm to announce that JAW 001 belongs to the unbelievable Theodore. The St. Louis-based greenbelt-independent-folk-rockers have been madly touring the countryside since 2006 making believers out of all who listen. Theirs is a true and haunting sound. It is one that many try to evoke, but few manage to accomplish. Only a small, unfeigned lot have ever been able to channel a sound so eerie, yet so comforting.
Last year the group found themselves in the company of Damien Jurado, Pedro the Lion, and Centro-matic when they joined the reputable Undertow Collective. Their performances at SXSW this year were absolutely astounding. Look for "Hold You Like a Lover" in early 2010. It is a phenomenal piece of art.

Dust From 1000 Years came to my attention via my brother in arms, Jeffrey Bowers, around a year ago. The band has been making other-worldly, serene, psychedelic-folk music for a number of years in a very under-the-radar fashion. Anyway, they'll be coming to Donkey Coffee in Athens, Ohio this Saturday, August 8 at 9 pm. Call a friend and come on down for a beautiful evening of music!
